Paul’s Place – Fundraising Event
One of our Paul’s Place service users, Emma Furness lost her brother Karl to suicide. He would have celebrated his 40th birthday on 4th February 2021. Emma was determined to do something significant to mark the occasion. She decided that she would walk 10,000 steps a day for 40 days, in remembrance of Karl. She set a target of raising £500 for us. However, she actually managed to raise a staggering £5,000 for us, which is 10 times the amount she had hoped to achieve!
Emma has told us that the reason she wanted to fundraise for us was because she really struggled in coping with all the issues surrounding someone taking their own life. She had tried reaching out to other mental health organisations for help and support but was repeatedly told that there was a waiting list (sometimes with up to a 1-year wait). Thankfully, she discovered us.
“From my initial call to Paul’s Place, I felt listened to. I was offered free counselling sessions very quickly and have felt thoroughly supported throughout my grieving process. In return, I wanted to do something meaningful and help others. They are such a necessary service”.
