Beacon Counselling Trust (BCT) have developed a collaborative partnership programme aimed at supporting the Armed Forces Community (AFC) concerning gambling-related harms, who are identified as a key vulnerable group.

The Armed Forces Gambling Support Network (AFGSN) is made up of a network of partners including Breakeven, Ara Recovery for All, RCA TRUST and Betknowmore. Recently the AFGSN came together as part of a programme development event helping to shape the design and delivery of the programme. BCT are proud to be working in partnership with so many dedicated practitioners and organisations who have come together as part of the AFGSN, supported by Greo as our independent evaluators to implement this important piece of work.

The project will be engaging the Armed Forces Community including cadets, serving personnel, veterans and their families across a life journey model as part of the approach. The programme has set itself ambitious targets of reaching over 15,000 AFC individuals over a 2-year period. The work will involve providing gambling-related harms education, training and prevention to the AFC, which will include the accredited Level 2 Award in Tackling Gambling Related Harms through the ‘Battling the Odds’ training programme.

A core function of the programme will be to promote early access to intervention to those at risk of or experiencing gambling harms through the National Gambling Support Network (NGSN). We are excited to be working in collaboration to address gambling-related harms within the Armed Forces Community as a partnership team.
