Merseyside based organisation The Brink, part of charity The Forward Trust are opening their whole-family MPACT programme to local families who have been impacted by gambling harms.

A new team of specialist MPACT (Moving Parents and Children Together) practitioners have spaces for up to eight families in Liverpool city region to join the eight-week evening programme to help improve communications, the ability to cope and strengthen relationships.

The MPACT programme has been delivered for 20 years to families who have been affected by a loved one’s addiction and now has been extended to adults and children who have a family member with gambling addiction.

BCT will be supporting MPACT and The Brink team with the delivery of our Bet You Can Help training to professional partners and family organisations across Merseyside and including this important programme in our aftercare offer.

Our Treatment Manager, Lauren Campbell said:

‘We are really excited to be able to collaborate with The Forward Trust on this unique MPACT programme to support families that have been impacted by gambling harms. We know that these harms very rarely only impact the person gambling, and the impacts on the wider family network can also be significant and long lasting. Being able to deal with these harms using a whole family approach ensures longer term recovery for all those directly and indirectly impacted by gambling. We are looking forward to being able to offer this additional support to our service-users.’

Each MPACT session combines work with all family members, work with adults and children/young people separately, and work with individual family units. There is also a family review session, and a reunion.

M-PACT has been shown to improve global family functioning, coping efficacy and communication. It has been noted as an effective intervention in several government and academic publications.

Please get in touch with Nicola at nicola.jaques@beaconcounsellingtrust.co.uk if you are interested in applying for a space on the programme or if you are a professional and would like to refer a family for support.

MPACT is open to any family in the Liverpool districts with transport and meals costs covered for each family.
